Mobilizer - SPC (Gibbs)
At a young age I realized that what people say versus what they do don’t always line up. In fact, I saw people living two very different lives - the one at church and the one everywhere else. I thought this was wrong and hypocritical, yet most of my teenage years looked exactly the same way.
On the outside it probably looked like I was a fairly good kid who had everything together… and I liked it that way! I didn’t want people thinking I was anything but perfect, but on the inside I knew I was living a lie.
Right before college God took this whole kingdom that I had built for myself and tore it all down. It was probably one of the hardest times in my life… and I am forever grateful. Because in those moments when I felt extremely alone and lost, God was shaping and preparing my heart to seek out community. And all in His timing, He led me to CoMission!
The first thing I noticed about these people is how much they loved and cared for one another deeply. It was way different than anything that I had ever seen! Not only that, but their lives weren’t focused on just showing up to a bible study or two and calling it a good week. They were intentionally trying to live out the gospel in their everyday lives… together! Seeing all of that just drew me in further.
Since then, I have graduated, gotten married, and even had a baby! The biggest difference, though, since beginning college is my desire to see college students raised up as disciples so that they would go out into the world and do the same. I long to see them pursuing others just like they have been pursued by the Father. My hope for SPC, other campuses throughout St Pete, and even beyond is that the light of Jesus would shine in the darkness.
