The largest question in my life so far has been, “What does it mean to follow Jesus?” From my younger years and through high school, this question bounced around in my mind and in my heart. I desperately wanted to understand what it meant to be a follower of Jesus Christ. I knew what it was like to listen to Christian music and to listen to others talk about Jesus, because I grew up in a place where that was common. But I didn’t understand how those words changed our understanding of God and who we are and what we do; my life was in desperate need of it being transformed by the gospel.
It wasn’t until I came to college and got plugged into our college ministry, COMission, that God started to do a massive shift in my thinking and in my heart. I got plugged into community and into a discipleship group and it was there where I finally got to see my question answered. For the first time I learned what it was like to seek God and find him in his word. I learned what it was like to really be and abide in community. Lastly, I learned what it was like to share my faith, and why we would even do that to begin with.
Through being in COMission God has shown me my need for the gospel and my need to be forgiven. He has also shown me how Jesus changes everything. Through the cross, I have been forgiven and given a whole new identity and purpose. I have become the adopted, forgiven, and sent. This fuels me towards inviting others into this family, sharing Jesus, and raising up disciples to do the same.
My life has been radically changed in every way through college ministry and I don’t want others to miss out on this too. My heart’s desire is for college students to see our need for Jesus, and how what he has done changes everything. For now I am committed towards caring for college students and equipping up disciple makers at the University of South Florida. My hope is to be launched in the summer of 2020 to SE Asia to be a part in building up the local church body and equipping up local students to reach the campuses globally with the gospel.
